Riverview High School

RENOVATION OF RIVERVIEW HIGH SCHOOL Sarasota, FL

An internationally acclaimed icon of modern architecture, Riverview High School, designed by Paul Rudolph in 1957, was threatened with demolition as part of a school replacement project. Richard Price led an interdisciplinary team propose the integration of the new school building with an adaptive re-use of the historic school, bringing workforce housing, community facilities and commercial uses together in the restored Rudolph buildings.

Re-capturing Rudolph’s original spirit of innovation and invention, the passive solar design and natural daylighting of the original project will be integrated into a new program of sustainable design, including a high performance energy system, and integrated bioretention systems.
