NEW COLLEGE OF FLORIDA MASTER PLAN Sarasota, FL

New College, the honors college of the Florida state university system, engaged a multidisciplinary team to create a master plan for the expansion of their existing campus. 

The plan focuses on strategies for developing three distinct areas: an ecologically sensitive bayfront historic area, a campus core bridging a major thoroughfare, and an adjacent mixed-use village center. 

The plan calls for a pedestrian-oriented campus organized around a series of courtyards and quadrangles.  The plan includes stringent guidelines for green building and a goal to become carbon neutral, energy independent and a net exporter of power over the next 20 years. 

Of special concern was the regeneration of the historic landscape and the design of an ecologically-sensitive stormwater management system to protect the sensitive shorefront.
